Jason receiving donor platelets.
Jason receiving donor platelets.
It All Started with a Blood Donation...

As many of you know, Jason was diagnosed at age 37 with Multiple Myeloma in May 2007.  Multiple Myeloma is cancer of the blood plasma cells and is quite uncommon in young persons (96% of MM cases occur in individuals aged 45 years and older).  However, many of you may NOT know how his diagnosis came to be...

It all started when he went to donate blood in March 2007 as part of a blood drive at his office.  He was turned away as a donor because of anemia (low iron count.)  After seeing his general doctor, receiving numerous blood tests, meeting with a hematologist oncologist and having a bone marrow biopsy - he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.

Blood Donors Wanted!

Jason spent many hours in hospital clinics receiving blood and platelet transfusions while fighting his battle with Multiple Myeloma.  We were always so grateful to all the self-less people who donated their blood and platelets so that others could live.  ONE PERSON'S BLOOD DONATION CAN SAVE UP TO 3 LIVES!

We are once again promoting blood donations in connection with our One on the Bar event featuring Under Arrested at Johnny's Other Side.    We encourage everyone to donate blood at any of oneblood's branch locations - find locations at oneblood.org.  We have a special gift for anyone who donates blood.   Complete the Tell Us You've Donated/Pledged form below in order to claim your special gift or text Jennifer a photo of you donating!

To ensure a smooth process, we encourage you to make an appointment to donate, however an appointment is not required.  Giving blood only takes about 45 minutes from check-in to leaving (the actual donation process takes only about 10 minutes.)  Be sure to eat a good meal and drink plenty of fluids prior to your donation. The oneblood website also has FAQ about blood donations (medications, frequency of donations, etc.)

Tell Us You've Donated/Pledged!

Be sure to tell us when you have donated blood or pledge to donate blood!  Sign our Guest Book below and we'll post your name/story on our website.  Take a selfie of you donating, post it on your facebook page and send it to us at jbgator@hotmail.comOne blood donation can save up to 3 lives - let's see how many lives we can save together!

I donated blood and saved three lives yesterday at the Hilton Millenia bloodmobile drive.  Many thanks to all the other donors yesterday!  A big shout out to those I saw donating blood at the same time as me - Joyce Sabogal, Stephanie Walsh, Neil Peraza and Kelly Olinger!  That's another 12 lives saved!  AWESOME!!!

I have donated blood 25 times and platelets 14 times.  My first platelet donation was a designated donation for Jason in connection with his stem cell transplant.  Approx. 2 weeks after my platelet donation for Jason, oneblood services called me on a Saturday AM saying they were desperate for platelets of my type for a young child in a St Pete hospital.  I immediately drove to oneblood’s St. Pete office where they were waiting for my donation.  The nurse told me that my platelet donation was already at the hospital before I left the building.  That made a lasting impression on me on how critical the need for platelets and blood can be.   You can donate platelets every two weeks and donate whole blood every eight weeks.  You can donate whole blood then two weeks later, platelets.  Donating platelets takes approx. 2 hours and whole blood takes about 30 minutes. I will be donating again next week for Shamrocks & Mulligans! – Alan Brown (Jason’s father-in-law)
